Gina Bacconi Beauty
This week we chatted to make up artist Ian McIntosh to get all the tricks and tips for perfect, easy wearing makeup. These easy pro tricks will make you look and feel your very best for any special occasion.
Ever wondered how some models look so effortlessly natural and pretty?
Well, they are models of course!!! But they get their hair and make up done by people like myself “Ian McIntosh”, a hair and make up artist for over twenty years.
Take a look at the gorgeous Kerry in one of our recent shoots for Gina Bacconi.
Make up can be important in so many different ways. But, whatever age the secret is to keep it simple and to use products that flatter and don't age you. If makeup doesn’t take long and has a great effect then you are more likely to do it.
Here is a step by step guide, products included! All the products I have used today are by Cosmetics a la Carte.
1. Base
I would always suggest making sure your skin is smooth and is as even as possible. By doing this any blemishes or things that stand out won’t be so noticeable, rather than going straight for a full coverage foundation I started with Cosmetics a la Carte's 'Rose Dew Primer', an award winning skin smoothing hyaluronic primer, and then apply a small amount of the 'Sheer Balancing Foundation'. This will give you a "barely there" finish which should look fresh and light. You can correct any imperfections with “Secret Light” concealer in your shade or try 'undercover' if you need a little more.
2. Eyes
One of the most important things is 'grooming' so make sure your brows are at their best by filling any gaps with “Brow Design” in ‘Taupe’ just lightly blend and brush into shape so they are soft to frame your eyes. My next stage, was to use ‘Secret Light’ in ‘Magnolia’ on the eyelid as a base and in the corners to highlight. This colour is slightly pink and will not only even out the skin on the eyelid but also highlight brow bones and the inner corner of the eye. I love this product as it does more than one job! Now we are starting to build a basic look; groomed, fresh and even.
3. Face
My next product is the 'Bare Bronze Cream Bronzer', to accentuate the structure of the face. Buff a little under the cheeks and across the eyes so it catches the brow bone and maybe around your forehead and a little under the chin, keeping it light and well blended. This should start to bring your face to life and you can see what more you think you need to add. On our shoot I applied a little Bare Blush in 'Rose Cream Blush' which also comes in a powder formulation. Over the top of the cheeks, again across the eye to give a fresh glow. I love creams for a youthful glow, but go with whatever you find easy. Now you should be looking glowing and healthy!
4. Eyes Part 2
To finish the eye you can use a little ‘Eye Velvet’ in ‘Blonde’ or whichever colour you are in the mood for, just across the eyelid to accentuate the eye. Of course, everyone needs a good mascara, so I finished off with ‘Intense Volume Mascara' making sure to lift those lashes.
SPECIAL OCCASION?
If you are doing an evening or occasion look then just add pencil underneath the shadow to strengthen the look using 'Supergel Eyeliner' in ‘Mystic’, then apply a little ‘Eye Velvet' under the eye and some mascara to those bottom lashes to really open up the eye. Giving a slightly smoky look.
5. Lips
Day to day a nice lip stain is something that always works. I used ‘Moisture Plus Lipstick‘ in ‘Cranberry’. A moisturising lipstick that you can just blot to give a nice natural glow to your lips.
SPECIAL OCCASION?
If you’re heading out for a special occasion a little 'Waterproof Lip Liner' in 'Neapolitan', softly smudged before the lipstick will give you a good base. Never go for dry lips this can be terribly ageing.
6. To Finish...
A final light dusting of 'Silk Touch’ a handy compact powder that really is light as silk and doesn’t give a dry look, but will help to keep everything in place and give that perfect glow.
Only Have 5 Minutes
If your in a rush, give your skin that head start of a natural glow, try 'Complexion Enhancer' in 'Nude Kiss' followed by a nice cream blush on the cheek across the eye and a smudge on the lip. Find your fave colour and keep it simple. Some mascara, a great lip balm and you’re set.
Using good quality products is important at any age. For this quick and simple Gina Bacconi look I used ‘Cosmetics a la Carte’, a British cosmetics company that pioneered natural looking foundations which feel invisible and support happy skin.
