Self Care

Most of us get the blues sometimes and although not nice, it is nice to know that it can be normal to feel this way from time to time, especially when we are in the midst of a pandemic. This week our community newsletter is continuing its Self Love theme with some easy at home pampering!

It doesn’t need to be difficult or expensive to have a little me time! Here we share some of our favourite ways:

Most of us get the blues sometimes and although not nice, it is nice to know that it can be normal to feel this way from time to time, especially when we are in the midst of a pandemic. This week our community newsletter is continuing its Self Love theme with some easy at home pampering!

It doesn’t need to be difficult or expensive to have a little me time! Here we share some of our favourite ways:

2 minute breathing exercise

Focusing on our breathing not only reduces stress by calming the body and mind but it is also good for reducing your heart rate.
Our favourite is a yoga style breathing technique called box or square breathing. It is easy to practise, simply relax and do the following:

- Let all the air out of your lungs to a count of four.
- Hold your lungs empty to a count of four.
- Inhale at the same pace for a count of four.
- Hold air in your lungs for a count of four.
- Before exhaling and beginning the pattern a new.

You can find this and more breathing techniques on the NHS website here;

At home mini Spa

Run yourself a nice warm bath, add in some magnesium salts, these help to reduce inflammation and relieve muscular tension helping to relax the body.
These ones, with camomile and lavender to promote sleep, are our favourites.

Before you get in give your body a scrub with this simple homemade brown sugar body scrub.

All-natural ingredients
This body scrub has just 3 simple ingredients:

1. 3/4 cup Brown sugar

2. 1/4 cup Olive oil

3. 2 tablespoons Honey

Mix together and store in an airtight container. In this divine mixture the honey evens out your complexion and brown sugar is an exfoliant with grit between table salt and sea salt.
The olive oil is an excellent natural moisturiser.
After you have scrubbed your body slather your face with your favourite face cream, climb into the bath, lie back and relax. The steam from the warm bath will help your skin absorb the cream and leave your face glowing. Wipe off any excess cream after you’ve finished your bath and you’ll be ready to melt into bed.

Not in the mood?

When all else fails nothing beats a nice cuppa tea and a few squares (or bar) of your favourite chocolate.
