San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

For all those adventure seekers we have the recommendation for you: climbing the peninsula where San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (hard to pronounce, but comes to mean "castle rock"). Located off the Bay of Biscay, the trek involves crossing a stone bridge and 241 steps. According to legend, after you have completed the climb, you should ring the bell of the church three times and make a wish. Picturesque is an understatement, we'll definitely be soaking up the views and sea air!

The Fine Art Museum of Alava

The Museum of Fine Arts in Alava contains extensive collections from the 18th and 19th centuries by Spanish artists as well as being a prime holder of Basque art from the period spanning 1850 to 1950. Besides the art, this is a definite gem for lovers of ornate architecture. The building itself is surrounded by a beautiful garden making it worth a visit for those who love exploring.

The Casino Building

Originally a social and gambling venue for the elite, this building located in the Lamera park is steeped in an interesting history. Despite being restored after flooding, the Casino building still maintains it majestic nature, boasting art and architecture in its numerous rooms and salons. This is definitely somewhere to dive into on those unbearably hot afternoons whilst enjoying a drink at the terrace bar which overlooks some gorgeous scenery.

The Rioja Wine Region

Spain is known for its wine, however Rioja is considered the holy grail by some. The Basque country is home to one of the Rioja regions, Rioja Alavesa and has potential for wine tours visiting the host of wineries which call the Basque country their home.

Casco Viejo - Old Town

The Casco Viejo of Bilbao is the heart of Bilbao. The place is fully of quirky independent shops, charming streets which are mostly pedestrianised, and tapas bars. Every now and again you'll reach a stunning spot like the St. James Cathedral and the Plaza Nueva. It is known as one of the most colourful neighbourhood.

At this stylish and quirky looking hotel in Elciego you can enjoy an exclusive room with view straight onto the valley and the surrounding vineyards.
