ABOUT US
THE STORY OF GINA BACCONI
A Century of British Style & Uncompromising Quality
Welcome to Gina Bacconi, where timeless elegance meets over a century of British design heritage. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to a singular mission: creating beautifully crafted, premium occasionwear that makes every woman feel confident, elegant, and entirely unique.
Our journey began in London in 1913. Founded as a modest tailoring workshop, our early house specialized in expertly structured women’s coats and heavy outerwear.
From day one, the factory floor was governed by an absolute benchmark and corporate motto:
"Make a Better Garment."
This obsession with flawless construction, superior fabrics, and impeccable fit allowed us to thrive, carving out a reputation for reliability and master craftsmanship in the heart of the London textile trade.
The Evolution: Shubette of London
Following World War II, a changing society demanded a new era of fashion. In 1944, the business evolved into Shubette of London, pivoting from structured outwear into high-quality, ready-to-wear day-to-evening dresses.
By the 1960s, Shubette had become an iconic fixture of British high-street style, celebrated for its beautifully detailed party dresses. To support this massive success, operations were scaled into a state-of-the-art design and manufacturing headquarters in Wembley, London, which remains our creative home to this day.
1976: The Birth of Gina Bacconi
As our reputation for impeccable design grew globally, we sought to create a dedicated label for life's most unforgettable moments. In 1976, Gina Bacconi was born.
Conceived as our signature, premium eveningwear imprint, Gina Bacconi took our founding mandate—Make a Better Garment—and elevated it to new heights. We married our historic, precision tailoring with luxury fabrics, intricate hand-beading, delicate lace, and fluid, flattering silhouettes. The label fast became a dominant force in British fashion, earning coveted placements in top-tier global department stores and independent boutiques alike.
Gina Bacconi Today
Today, Gina Bacconi operates proudly as a fully independent, family-owned European design house. More than one hundred years after that first coat was stitched, we still design every collection in London with the exact same philosophy laid down in 1913.
